KUCHING: The Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS) will once again be holding its childhood cancer awareness exhibition.

Themed ‘Anna Beats Cancer’, it tells a story about Anna, a Sarawakian girl who was diagnosed with cancer.

The three-day exhibition from Oct 25 will be in the form of a giant balloon maze at the East Atrium of Vivacity Megamall here.

The balloon sculptures in the maze, along with storyboards in three languages, illustrate Anna’s journey and also show the support given to her and her family by SCCS.

It is aimed at creating awareness of childhood cancer, its signs and symptoms, as well as providing more information to the public about how the SCCS supports these children and their families.

Entrance to the maze is free and attendees will also be given a free temporary tattoo and a voucher from Kidzoona for a one-hour free playtime.

Attendees can also find out more on how they can help and support SCCS through volunteering opportunities, merchandise sales as well as collaborate to raise childhood cancer awareness.

Registration for the society’s annual charity run, Colour Rush, will also be available.

The public can also sign up for the Monthly Donation Programme, an auto-debit process where public can donate monthly to SCCS, from a minimum of RM30 (RM1 per day).

SCCS vice-president Dr Ong Eng-Joe said, “Just RM30 a month, over one year, can help to support a child and caregiver to stay at the SCCS halfway home for six nights, where food and transport to hospital are also provided. This makes a big difference to the families who would have otherwise had to find a place to stay, which can be very costly.”

The exhibition will be officially launched at 11am on Oct 27, where the maze would be closed for half an hour to allow the event supporters, as well as children and families under the SCCS care, to be brought through the maze.

Invitations for free storytelling sessions have also been sent to schools around Kuching, with limited slots available and the maze will be closed to public, during these sessions, for half an hour each session, at 11am and 3pm respectively on Oct 26 and 27.
