China woman fined RM5k for prohibited acts

KUCHING: A woman from China was fined RM5,000 in default three months in jail by the Magistrate’s Court here today.

Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali meted out the sentence on Huang Guiping after she pleaded guilty to carrying out prohibited activities.

The accused, 37, was charged under Section 22(b) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988, punishable under Section 24(a) of the same Act which carries a fine not exceeding RM100,000 or imprisonment not exceeding seven years or both.

According to the facts of the case, the accused was arrested on June 8 at 10.30pm at the Royal KTV, Jalan Canna for allegedly carrying out unauthorised activities.

Insp Adzmei Ahmad prosecuted while Huang was represented by lawyer Tan Chek Choi.
