SERIAN:: The driveway in front of St Theresa Catholic Church here is urgently in need of repair as the retaining wall is likely to collapse anytime. Chairman of DAP Ser ian, Edward Luwat said there are cracks in the driveway and the ground is also uneven.
He added that soil erosion occurred due to poor planning of the Pan Borneo Highway as the highway is constructed ‘too close’ to the church building. Calling for immediate attention to counter the problem, Edward said with the coming monsoon season and expected heavy rainfal l , the worst is yet to come.
“This will affect the people, vehicles and the church itself if repair works are not done immediately. Prayer services are held daily in the church with thousands during the weekend going to St Theresa primary school and parents sending their children using the same driveway.
To prevent any unforeseen circumstance, Edward hoped that the authority concerned will act fast because with Christmas coming soon where many activities will be held in the church. “The safety of the people should be given priority,” he pointed out.
