KUCHING: The Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Ministry (KWKPK) will officially write to the Education Ministry (MoE) to request for children who are in the process of applying for citizenship to be allowed to go to school.

Its minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said they would provide evidence, such as a receipt and reference number from the National Registration Department (JPN) to show that such children were in the process of applying for citizenship.

“If the school requires more information, we and the Home Ministry can help to provide such information that these children are indeed in the process of applying to become Malaysian citizens.

“We see this as a way to ensure that our children are not left out in terms of education.

“In this interim period when their application result is not known yet, we would like MoE to give permission to these children to study in schools,” she said.

Fatimah also said that they would comply with any conditions imposed by MoE, adding that other aspects such as whether fees are charged would be up to MoE.
