KUCHING: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) is not unduly worried by the civil forfeiture suit filed by the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) against it.
In fact, the party sees the suit in a positive light as “closure is finally at hand”.
The party secretariat, in a statement issued yesterday, said SUPP will allow the law to take its course.
MACC has filed the civil forfeiture against 41 individual and entities to recover some RM270 million related to 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) on June 19.
SUPP was among several political parties named as respondents. Others were political parties liaison committees, individuals and entities.
MACC chief commissioner Latheefa Koya said the suits were filed at the Kuala Lumpur
High Court under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.
SUPP secretariat said on June 26, 2018 the party received a notice from its bank that its headquarters’ account was frozen by MACC.
“On Sept 24 2018, SUPP received further notice that the account was seized by MACC. Our office bearers have throughout this period cooperated with the investigation,” the statement added.
