KUCHING: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) yesterday afternoon carried out cloud seeding operations in several areas in the state to reduce the effects of the ongoing haze.

The operation was carried out jointly with the National Disaster Management Authority (Nadma), Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF), and Labuan Water Supply Department, MetMalaysia said in its Facebook page.

A spokesman from the State Disaster Management Committee (JPBNS) Major Ismail Mahedin said Hercules C-130 aircraft was used in the operation to ferry water from its base in Labuan.

Areas covered under the operation include here, Samarahan, Serian, Sri Aman and Betong.

In a related development, the haze situation was reported to have shown some positive improvements throughout the state with the Air Pollutant Index (API) readings recorded at moderate levels.

API readings between 0 and 50 are categorised as ‘good’, and ‘moderate’ when between 51 and 100.

As at press time yesterday, all divisions except Sri Aman which recorded above 100, had moderate API readings.
