Collab on ROV education and training inked

SIBU: A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) and SSR Rover Sdn Bhd (Rover) at the UTS campus here today.

At the signing ceremony, the UTS was represented by its vice chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Khairuddin Abd Hamid while Rover was represented by its managing director Syamsul Nizam Azmee.

Also present were UTS’ deputy vice chancellor Prof Ir Dr Mohd Shahril Osman and Rover’s corporate advisor Safrina Zainal Abidin.

Rover deals with oil and gas service in Malaysia.

According to a press statement issued at the signing ceremony, among the objectives of the MoU was to develop cooperation between the two parties in the field of education and training programmes specific to Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs).

Besides, it was to facilitate professional development and lifelong learning by sharing knowledge and expertise with management and teaching staff of UTS.

Through the pact, the two parties would also collaborate to create a comprehensive curriculum for ROV education and training that meets industry standards and requirements beside the syllabus that had been approved by the government and industry accreditation bodies.

“Moreover, it is to explore opportunities for sponsorship and founding for the ROV education, training programme and participant job placement in the industries.

“It is also to foster a mutually beneficial partnership that promotes the growth and advancement of ROV’s technology and education and its associated knowledge application to other technology solution and application,” the statement added.
