Come and watch SUKSAR athletes compete

SIBU: The public is encouraged to attend various venues across town during the 3rd Sarawak Games (SUKSAR) to show support for the participating athletes in the sports meet.

According to SUKSAR’s organising committee member Mikar Changgan, all the venues are open to the public.

“We welcome the public to come to each venue so that our athletes will feel more motivated with many spectators present to watch them compete.

“I encourage the audience and residents of Sibu, especially, to come to our sports venues that are being contested,” he stated during discussions with reporters at the SUKSAR opening ceremony dry run at Sibu Indoor Stadium today.

A total of 12 venues have been selected here for the organisation of 13 sports events in SUKSAR scheduled from Jan 15 to 18.

The chosen venues include Jalan Sibu Jaya-Julau and Taman Jubli Bukit Aup for cycling, Dewan Melayu Melanau (weightlifting), Stadium Bola Tampar Taman Rejang (volleyball), Gelanggang Bola Keranjang KRT Sungai Antu (basketball), Gelanggang Futsal Kampung Nangka (futsal), Dewan Sepak Takraw Kampung Bandong (sepak takraw), and Stadium Tertutup Bukit Lima (hockey).

Other selected venues are Wong Nai Siong Secondary School (wushu), Sibu Indoor Stadium (boxing and taekwondo), Azman Hashim Sibu Jaya Community Sports Centre (judo and karate), and MUC Hall Kampung Nyabor (pencak silat).

Regarding the preparation for the opening ceremony, which will be officiated by Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu tomorrow (Jan 15), Mikar said that the preparation is almost 100 per cent completed.

“We will conduct a full rehearsal tonight at 7 pm to ensure the smoothness of the opening ceremony tomorrow. We hope everything will run smoothly,” he added.

Mikar also shared that all contingents have arrived in the town, involving around 1,200 athletes from throughout Sarawak.
