SIBU: The Sibu Nansang Community Association (SNCA) has received praise from Sibu MP Oscar Ling Chai Yew for its role in offering a platform for the community to come together and foster harmony and peaceful living.

According to Ling, many livelihood problems can be communicated through the association to the authorities.

“The association plays a pivotal role as a bridge connecting people to the authorities,” he said this at the closing ceremony of the Mid-Autumn Festival Veteran Chinese Singing competition organised by the SNCA on Jalan Ulu Sg Merah here recently.

The competition, exclusive to those aged 50 and above, was divided into men’s and women’s categories, attracting 43 contestants.

“I hope future events will include those that promote civic awareness, which is an important benchmark of a modern community,” he said.

Meanwhile, SNCA chairman Dato Paduka Dr. Thomas Hii King Hiong, acknowledged that the competition’s success owed much to the support and participation of people’s representatives like Pelawan assemblyman Michael Tiang, Ling, sponsors, the association’s executive committee members, and the community.
