SIBU: Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government, Michael Tiang Ming Tee, urged Community Leaders and Village Chiefs (KMKK) to stay updated with the state’s latest development plans and projects.

Tiang said, by doing so, they can effectively share accurate information with the public.

During the closing ceremony of the Empowerment Course (Minute Meetings Management) for KMKK and village security and development committee (JKKK) at Sibu Islamic Complex here on Thursday, Tiang warned that without accurate information dissemination, fake news could mislead the public, which is very dangerous.

Malaysia has three levels of government – federal, state, and local. As part of the local government, KMKK and JKKK play a vital role as they are the closest points of contact for the public.

Tiang highlighted that regardless of how great the government policies and representatives (YBs) are, it is essential to reach out to all Sarawakians, regardless of their religion, race, or background.

He encouraged KMKK and JKKK members not to underestimate their roles, as they act as the eyes and ears for the constituencies and the state government.

Regarding the programme, Tiang praised the effort by the Sibu District Office to equip KMKK and JKKK the Pelawan constituency with proper minute meeting management skills and knowledge, which will ultimately serve the community better.

Also present were Sibu District Officer Khalid Andong, Sibu resident representative Macgyver Boi.
