PADAWAN: The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) is dedicated to reshaping public perceptions and fostering a positive attitude towards toilet cleanliness.

As part of its sustained efforts to raise awareness about hygiene and cultivate a clean living environment, its chairman Tan Kai said MPP is actively engaged in organising the Clean Toilet Competition.

This competition involves diverse categories, aiming to elicit community participation and promote cleanliness on various fronts.

“Organising the Clean Toilet Competition is part of MPP’s ongoing efforts to promote awareness of toilet hygiene and a clean living environment among communities.

“The main objective of the competitions is to encourage the public to maintain a clean culture, particularly in the aspect of clean public toilets,” he said to New Sarawak Tribune.

The Clean Toilet Competition for petrol stations, held from July to August 2022, signified a proactive approach to maintaining hygiene standards in high-traffic areas.

Following this, the Clean Toilet Competition for Primary and Secondary Schools, scheduled from November to December 2022, underscored the importance of instilling clean habits in the younger generation.

Looking ahead, the Toilet Cleanliness Competition Programme for the Food Premise Category, set to take place from September to October 2023, showcases MPP’s forward-looking strategy to addressing hygiene concerns in food establishments.

By organising these competitions, Tan added that MPP seeks not only to highlight the significance of a clean culture but also to encourage active participation from various segments of the community.

Beyond the competition sphere, the council diligently implements the Public Toilet Star Rating Programme.

This comprehensive initiative involves the inspection and grading of toilets under MPP’s jurisdiction, including public toilets, shopping malls and complexes, eateries, and primary and secondary schools.

The rating system, ranging from three to five stars, serves as a benchmark for hygiene standards.

“More than just an evaluative process, the Toilet Star Rating Programme doubles as an educational platform, enlightening the public on proper toilet etiquette and reinforcing the importance of maintaining clean public facilities,” Tan said.
