KUCHING: Sarawak Pakatan Harapan (PH) elected representatives should focus on serving their constituents and less on rhetoric or irrelevant matters, opined Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Public Complaints Bureau chief Wilfred Yap.

“They should solve the local community problems and issues, and bring tangible benefits through securing federal development funding to address the numerous infrastructure problems currently faced by voters in the areas they represent,” said Yap to New Sarawak Tribune yesterday.

He was asked to comment on Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg’s speech at the swearing-in of local councillors here on July 31, where the Chief Minister slammed the PH federal government for continually infringing on Sarawak’s constitutional rights.

He said Abang Johari’s speech was a wake-up call to the people of Sarawak to stay united under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

“Many election promises made by PH have still not been fulfilled,” he noted.

Yap stressed that Sarawakians cannot rely on the PH federal government, saying, “We must fend for ourselves and stand on our own two feet, at the same time we must defend and fight for Sarawak’s rights and interests under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).”

He believed that Sarawakians could safely rely on GPS to safeguard the state’s rights and interests.

“GPS is 100 percent local-based and it is free  PH and Malayan control. Sarawakians in Malayan-based parties have to listen to and obey their Malayan masters,” he reasoned.

“Only Sarawak-based GPS has the freedom to pursue what is fair and just for Sarawak,” Yap stated.
