S’wak to kick off against Kuantan FA on positive note

KUCHING: Sarawak squad are determined to begin their quest on a positive note when the Premier League 2018 kicks off today. Sarawak import striker, Matthew Roskam said he wanted to ensure a positive result in each coming match. “Personally, I will try to give my best to bring in the goals at every game to ensure Sarawak collect full points,” said Matthew confidently.

He also admitted his desire to bring back Sarawak to compete in the Super League 2019. His teammate, Nebojsa Marinkovic, also have a similar desire. “Although this is my first appearance with the Sarawak team, I’m sure I will try to give one of the best performances,” he said when met at a training session on Monday.

According to him, there isn’t any problem for him to adapt to the pattern of training and even admitted he is more compatible with other players. Bobby Gonzales also said that with the experience he has, it will be used as best as possible to help the Sarawak team this season.

“Indeed, we know the challenges that will come to face the existing team, but I believe if other friends come up with the right commitment, the opportunity for us to make positive decisions is there,” said Bobby, who also desired to see Sarawak back again in the Super League 2019. For two goalkeepers, Mohd. Iqbal Suhaimi and Mohamad Firdaus Muhamad, who are determined to ensure that goals are not conceded in every game .

“The Sarawak squad this season are reinforced by two different set of players – new faces and experienced players. “Undoubtedly, there’s compatibility plus an increase in the combination of positions that can lead to good results in every game,” said Iqbal who had previously played with the Sarawak team. Meanwhile, young trio Mohammad Hafiz Abu Bakar, Abdul Rahim Abdul Razak and Jimmy Ramond have set their own benchmark.

They wanted to make an excellent appearance when given opportunity to play and help ensure that Sarawak can win every game. “I believe in the training pattern and tactics applied by head coach (Ian Andrew Gillan) who can form a strong combination,” said Abdul Rahim. For this season’s opening match Sarawak will take on Kuantan FA at 4.15pm on its own turf at State Stadium Negeri, Petra Jaya today.
