KUCHING: The road atmosphere yesterday morning was certainly crowded as people prepared to celebrate the change of year on new year eve yesterday evening.

Since 9 am yesterday, there was congestion in the city of Kuching, especially in the supermarkets in anticipation of the new year, which would take place less than 12 hours from the time of writing.

The Suara Sarawak/New Sarawak Tribune survey also found that the community was eager to meet the new year, especially after several years of being hit by the pandemic.

People were seen making preparations by buying various raw materials including fish, chicken, meat and others to make their own special dishes on the night of the celebration.

In addition to celebrating the new year 2023, there were also those who took the opportunity to celebrate birthdays, even for Muslims to eat tahlil and so on.

Meanwhile, for those who were to welcome the new year away from family with friends, they intend to welcome it by going to the entertainment outlet to sing, watch movies and so on.

Adriana Dris revealed that she and her family used the time to get together with the family while waiting for the fireworks display on the eve of the new year.

“Various side dishes are being prepared to be served on the night. Every year, we will gather together to strengthen the rapport between families,” she said yesterday.

According to Umi Amirah Mohamad Wasli, she revealed that her family had made preparations two days before the change of the year from 2022 to 2023.

“It is to avoid the congestion that will certainly occur in the morning. Of course many people will go down to the market to buy ingredients needed to cook for the celebration.

“Now, my family and I are just waiting for time to prepare anything necessary,” she explained.

In the meantime, the public who did not yet have any plans were invited to witness the new year eve celebration called New Year Countdown together at the Stadium Perpaduan starting at 7 pm.

A variety of interesting activities were to be provided including a fireworks show that was really anticipated on the night.
