KUCHING: Police had a field day collecting a whopping RM269,000 from 135 compounds issued to errant individuals who flouted the standard operating procedures (SOPs) from Oct 1 to 7.

Of the figure, 127 individuals were slapped with compounds totalling RM189,000 while eight business owners were compounded RM80,000.

District police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said police also took a lenient approach by advising flouters to abide by the SOPs.

“In areas frequented by tourists, my men advised a total of 187 individuals to comply with the SOPs.

“Seventy of them were advised to register using the MySejahtera application or through the customer logbooks in premises; 58 were advised to practise physical distancing, and 59 individuals were advised to use face masks in public areas,” he said, adding that Kuching police will continue with their enforcement.

He warned that action will be taken against individuals or business premises that failed to abide by the SOPs.

Ahsmon urged the community to play their part and follow the rules, especially in tourist attraction areas, to break the chain of Covid-19 transmission.
