Cops probing Bandar Jaya fight

BINTULU: Two local men have been detained to assist with investigations into a fight that occurred near the Bandar Jaya junction on Monday.

Bintulu police chief Supt Batholomew Umpit confirmed that they received a police report regarding the incident that happened around 12.30 pm.

“Investigations are still being carried out and statements from both parties have been taken.

“The cause of the incident is yet to be ascertained,” he said.

Batholomew said that the case is being investigated under Section 160 of the Penal Code for fighting in public, which carries up to six months in prison or a RM1,000 fine or both, upon conviction.

He advised the public not to create any speculations or spread false news.

If anyone has information about the incident, they can channel it to the investigating officer Insp Muhammad Hafizuddin Zaidi at 014-6066404 or the Bintulu police operation room at 086-318304.

Earlier, a 59-second video clip of the fight had gone viral on social media.

In the clip, one man can be seen lying on the ground while trying to fend off another from hitting him.

Members of the public later intervened and broke up the fight.
