SIBU: The Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) is set to dazzle both locals and visitors with the Christmas Festival 2023, which is scheduled from December 8 to December 25 at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phase 1.

Organising chairman councillor Simon Wee said that the theme of the event is ‘A Classic Christmas,’ promising a celebration brimming with activities and bathed in the enchanting ambiance of the season.

“This celebration goes beyond your ordinary holiday event. We’re transforming the festival venue into a ‘Christmas Wonderland,’ where the square will be enlivened with captivating light displays, creating a magical Christmas haven,” he said during a press conference yesterday (Nov 16).

According to Wee, the festival will feature 87 food and beverage stalls, along with creatively decorated food trucks, forming a highlight of the event.

He highlighted the participation of 12 private sectors in a unique competition: the Christmas Architecture Decoration Contest.

“Moving away from the traditional focus on Christmas trees, participants will demonstrate their creativity by decorating Christmas-themed structures. This approach is not only unique but also cost-effective and eco-friendly,” he added.

Wee also said that to further enhance the festive atmosphere, seven local churches will participate, offering performances and busking on the main stage from December 18 to December 25.

“Additionally, fitness enthusiasts should look forward to the ‘Christmas Zumba Party’ on December 23 at 7.15 pm, which promises an energetic and spirited celebration of movement.

“The competition among ten food trucks will bring an extra element of excitement to the festivities. Alongside, various souvenir stalls will offer holiday-themed trinkets and gifts,” he added.
