KUCHING:  Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Datuk James Chan disclosed yesterday that the council had collected an estimated revenue of RM90 million this year, including government grants.

He said this after the council’s full council meeting at MBKS here yesterday.

Chan said when the late Chief Minister Pehin Sri Adenan Satem reduced the assessment rates MBKS collected RM2.5 million less in revenue.

“But now with the development of new properties in our area, we went back to the original figure.

“However, it is not enough. Our expenditure can be RM130 million to RM140 million a year as we carry out a lot of repair and maintenance works. Luckily, we have a federal funding of about RM30million, at least, and our spending depends on how we do our jobs.

“We must plan properly otherwise the financial resources will not be enough. That is why in MBKS, I take care of the financial planning to ensure that whatever we spend on is worth it,” he said.

Meanwhile, MBKS informed the public that the bill payment counters at the ground floor of its building will be open from 8am to 3pm on Dec 31, 2018 to facilitate the year-end closing activities on that day.
