SIBU: The Saberkas Borneo Eco Trek annual hash run has received a shot in the arm with Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Clarence Ting pledging to support it financially.

In his brief address at the 10th anniversary run on Saturday; Ting declared that the council wants to get involved in the run.

“I see so many participants here this morning. I am also happy that the organising chairman is also the SMC councillor. Next year, SMC wants to get involved in the run as well as to support this event,” he said.

More than 300 people took part in the run.  The run was divided into three categories — short, medium and long run. An 86-year-old man was among the participants who braved the morning heat to complete their preferred category.

Saberkas Borneo Eco Trek was formed in 2009 and has been holding hash runs every Saturday since then.

Organising chairman, Councillor Raymond Tiong said the run was made possible with sponsors from the corporate body as well as the participants.
