Couple held in Sibu for obstructing cops

SIBU: A couple has been arrested after trying to obstruct police officers from carrying out their duties at Jalan Lau King Howe last night (Jan 13).

Sibu district police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili, who confirmed the incident, said a team of police officers who were on a crime prevention patrol had attempted to inspect a suspicious vehicle that had stopped at the parking area of Jalan Lau King Howe.

“At around 9.15pm yesterday, our men were conducting crime prevention patrols in the area and chanced upon a suspicious car.

“Upon approaching the car, the driver of the vehicle suddenly reversed their car and hit the police vehicle while on the run.

“The suspect hit a traffic light and a civilian vehicle while being chased by the police,” he said in a statement today (Jan 14).

The duo, men aged between 22 years old and 18-year-old women were arrested at Jalan Quarry.  

Investigations are currently ongoing under Section 307 of the Penal Code.
