KOTA SAMARAHAN: The crime index in Kota Samarahan for the first two months of 2023 increased to 58 cases compared to 56 cases for the same period last year, said Kota Samarahan police chief DSP Brodie Brangka.

For the period of January to February, rape and break-in cases have been the major contributor to the increase in the crime index.

“Last year, there was only one rape case for the period in question, but this year three rape cases have been reported.

“Break-in cases have also increased from five to 12 cases,” he said during the 216th Police Day commemoration parade at IPD Kota Samarahan today.

Brodie also revealed 456 individuals were arrested for narcotic cases in 2021 and the total number of arrests increased to 525 individuals in 2022.

“The arrests included drug related offences under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

“As for January up to February in 2023 this year, 126 individuals were arrested compared 96 individuals for the same period last year,” he said.
