Croc devours man in fatal attack

MUKAH: A 58-year old man was believed to have been attacked and devoured by a crocodile in Batang Oya when he was out fishing for prawns.

Captain (PA) Zuriza Sharkawi from the Malaysia Civil Defencee Force here said the team received an emergency call at around 11.34 pm on Friday (May 5).

He said a search and rescue (SAR) operation began when friends and residents from the victim’s village were out looking for him.

“The body of the victim was found at 12.30 am by the public,” Zuriza said in a statement.

It is understood that the victim went out fishing for prawns with his friends at around 8.30 pm on separate boats.

However, at 10.31pm, as they were out fishing for prawns the victim was suddenly screaming for help from his friends.

The victim’s friends rushed to approach him; when they arrived at his boat he was no longer found on the boat as they saw a crocodile attacking him.

The body was then handed over to the police to be taken to the hospital after it was found.
