Cryptocurrency equipment found at fire scene

MIRI: A fire that broke out in the first floor of a building at Pelita Commercial Centre here early yesterday morning exposed a suspected cryptocurrency activity.

It was believed that the unit had been used as based for a cryptocurrency mining operation centre.

According to Acting Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Zone 6 Miri chief Senior Superintendent II Ahmad Nizam Sapaiee, a distressed call was received around 12.31 am about the fire which engulfed the first floor of the building.

Fortunately no injuries were reported.
Eight firemen from Miri Central fire station led by PKPgB Bonny Martin were despatched to the scene.

“They managed to bring the fire under control at 1.10am, and during the overhaul operations firemen found equipment commonly used in cryptocurrency mining operations,” said Ahmad Nizam.
