BARAM: Petronas Sabah Sarawak Gas Pipeline (SSGP) has helped to give the Darussalam Mosque here a facelift.

SSGP members and the rural community of Telang Usan recently worked together to repaint the mosque, with new paints contributed by SSGP, in view of the

coming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.

Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau, who witnessed the handing over of sponsorship and symbolically launched the work party to paint the mosque, lauded SSGP for its corporate social responsibility (CSR) effort.

Dennis suggested that the mosque committee extend invitation to non-Muslims living in Long Lama town to take part in any future “gotong-royong” activities, including painting the mosque.

“Likewise local churches and temples should also extend invitations to the mosque committee to join their activities as this is how we should foster rapport as a community,” he said.

Dennis recalled how he advised people of Telang Usan, in particular longhouse residents within the pipeline area, to look at Petronas SSGP as a long-term partner for mutual benefit.

He called on the members of the Long Lama community to avoid becoming instigators of government projects and projects

that can benefit the general populace.

He said he regretted that the SSGP project management team and contractors did face “certain degree of problems” due to unreasonable demands by some locals.

“These people had really takenup a lot of my time trying to negotiate and mediate between certain longhouse folk and the project team since 2011.

“I thank God despite the difficulty we went through…I am happy that the SSGP project was able to be completed,” he said.

Also present were Telang Usan administrative officers Norhidayah Hasbullah, Eric Anderias and Victoria Windsom Luke as well as the mosque management secretary Wahid Abdullah.
