MIRI: Finance students and lecturers at Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) recently attended a talk on stock trading to understand the buying and selling of stocks.

The talk entitled ‘Trading 101: Stock Trading for Beginners’ was conducted by the Curtin Finance and Investment Club (CFIC), the student-run club.

Finance lecturer Alpha Ngadan, a trader himself, presented the talk.

He introduced them to the common tools required to start their trading journey – from using an application that can be downloaded from Google Play or the Apple App Store to a chart website that offers technical and fundamental analyses for free, as well as virtual accounts offered by Bursa Malaysia that allows traders to back test their trading strategies.

The CFIC will be organising workshops to guide students, lecturers and members of the public on how to start trading. The workshop will include planning a trade, recognising one’s risk appetite, and managing a trade (when to enter and when to exit a trade).

Curtin Malaysia offers a three-year Bachelor of Commerce in Finance, as well as Finance and Management, Finance and Marketing, and Accounting and Finance double majors, which can be completed in three years.

“The field of finance can take you anywhere in the world to many careers. You can work in corporate finance for big business, for well-known financial institutions, or in financial markets in Malaysia and overseas,” said Alpha.

He said financial planning and consultancy is one of the careers finance students can consider, and that includes trading in stocks.
