MIRI: Curtin University Malaysia’s recent electrifying dance concert RE: START brought the campus community and guests together to celebrate the talent and versatility of its students and guest performers.

Organised by the university’s Curtin Arts and Dance Club, organising chairperson Wilson Ong said the concert was more than just a display of dance performances.

“It was about reigniting the flames of our campus community after the pandemic. We are thrilled to witness our students and guest performers shining on stage, reminding us of the power of art and resilience.

“The event was a great success largely due to the hard work put in by everyone, their dedication to dance, and the countless hours spent perfecting their routines,” he said in a statement today.

He said the organising committee was delighted with the response, especially after the club took a three-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Their last major concert, ‘Transcendance’, featuring hundreds of student performers, took place in 2019.

Meanwhile, club advisor Dr Ngu Ik Ying commended the club for the event’s success.

“The RE: START dance concert reflects the indomitable spirit of our students. It is a testament to their dedication and creativity, and a symbol of Curtin Malaysia’s commitment to the arts,” she said.

The concert earlier featured a diverse array of performances, ranging from Chinese classical dance to the contemporary and fluid movements of the modern age.

For dance enthusiasts, the spectacle was a treat, featuring everything from hip-hop and K-pop to street jazz and open style presentations.

In addition to about 40 students of Curtin Malaysia students, the performers also included guest performers from Miri like Shelton and Bernard, Christelle Wong, Kathleen Wong, Wei Chuan, and ICATS.

Noteworthy was the fact that many of the choreographies were entirely created and executed by its students, a testament to the remarkable talent and creativity housed within the Curtin Arts and Dance Club.

The visual appeal of the event was further heightened by stunning lighting, set designs, and costumes, all conceptualised and crafted by the students themselves.
