DALAT: The ‘Program Ziarah Ramadan’ has brought festive cheers to the underprivileged here.
On Wednesday (April 5), Dalat assemblywoman Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah presented financial assistance to over 286 individuals in her constituency.
The financial assistance amounting to RM28,600 benefitted needy individuals, single parents and people with disabilities (OKU) among others.
At the same time, Fatimah also distributed financial assistance amounting to RM51,000 for electricity and water bills to nine mosques and 12 suraus in her constituency.
The recipients for this assistance were Masjid Al-Muslihin Dalat; Surau Darul Makmur, Kampung Hilir Dalat; Surau Nur Isiah, Kampung Sungai Kut Muara; Masjid Al-Huda, Kampung Sungai Kut Tengah; Masjid Nurul Saadah, Kampung Brunei; Masjid Al-Hidayah; Surau Kampung Seberang Medong; Surau Kampung Klid and Surau Al-Amin, Kampung Kekan.
Fatimah, who is also Minister of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, began her tour of distributing these assistance from 8.30 am until 2 pm where she was warmly welcomed and happily mingling with her constituents.
One of the recipients, Dara Bujang, expressed her gratitude and appreciation to Fatimah whom she described as a “kind and caring assemblywoman”.
The 66-year-old said such assistance is much appreciated to those in need like herself who has to look after her husband who is unwell.
“My husband is suffering from gout, so I have to take the lead in generating income for our household. I often make traditional kuih to sell and in a week I can earn about RM250.
“With the rise in the price of goods, this amount is not enough. As such, I am very thankful to be selected as one of the recipients for this assistance,” she said.
Another recipient, Annisa Udou also echoed the same sentiment and thanked Fatimah for always being concerned about her constituents’ wellbeing.
The 25-year-old recently completed her tertiary education and she is currently looking for employment.
“I am very happy that we have a people-centric and caring local representative in Dalat. This assistance means a lot to us,” she said.
Aisyah Eli was also thrilled to be selected as one of the recipients of the assistance.
The 62-year-old said Sarawak is fortunate to have a caring state government and leaders who put the people first.
“I hope that there will be more similar assistance in the future. I am very grateful that my children and I have some extra money for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration,” she said.
