SERIAN: Local councillors were told to assist in planning and monitoring the implementation of projects in their respective council jurisdictions.

Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Deputy Minister Datuk Snowdan Lawan said councillors are intermediaries between local community and the Sarawak government.

“Council members are entities that connect the community to the local authorities.

“In doing so, they play an important role in highlighting any needs and also helping to solve the problems faced by the local residents,” he said.

He said this at a swearing-in ceremony for members of Serian District Council (MDS) at a hotel here yesterday.

Snowdan, who is also Balai Ringin assemblyman called on MDS to ensure that the implementation of any project is done fairly and based on the needs of the local area.

This, he said was to balance the distribution of allocations as well as to ensure that development can benefit all levels of society.
