Daro assemblyman expresses confidence in sovereign fund board members

KUCHING: Members of the the Board of Guardians of the Sarawak Sovereign Wealth Future Fund can draw on their proven and vast experience to efficiently manage the fund in the face of global challenges, said Daro assemblyman Safiee Ahmad.

He said the extensive experience of the board members is crucial to ensure that the fund is managed strictly with full transparency and assure that the fund can steer Sarawak to a better future.

“The appointed members are very experienced and have distinguished performance throughout their career.

“They are also from diverse career backgrounds. It can be observed that the appointed members are from financial, corporate and legal backgrounds and all of them have vast experience in their own respective fields; these combinations are crucial for the proper management of the Sovereign Wealth Future Fund.

“This could also guarantee a good governance structure necessary for the sovereign wealth fund,” he told New Sarawak Tribune.

On Aug 14, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg announced that former Federal Court judge Tan Sri Sulong Matjeraie has been appointed to head the Sarawak Sovereign Wealth Future Fund with board members Tan Sri Datuk Amar Leonard Linggi Jugah, Tan Sri Ahmad Nizam Salleh, Datuk Iain John Lo, Grainne Dooley, Mohsen Fahmi and Datuk Soedirman Aini, and ex-officio members Datuk Seri Talat Mahmood Abd Rashid and Datuk Seri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar.

The Sarawak Sovereign Wealth Future Fund is expected to commence operation on Jan 1 next year.
