KUALA LUMPUR: The proposal to establish a comprehensive database has been approved by the National Entrepreneur and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Development Council.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said a comprehensive database that integrated all agencies was important and necessary to ensure the success of programme implementation and assistance delivery.

“Indeed, many agencies have their own data but we need a comprehensive database that integrates all agencies, including company registration.

“This is important because we want to know what programmes we can implement collectively to avoid duplication and ensure that we prioritise those in need of assistance,” he was quoted as saying by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS).

He said this after attending a meeting of the National Entrepreneur and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Development Council at the Parliament building here today (March 30).

The meeting was chaired by Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Also present with Awang Tengah were the Advisor to the Ministry of International Trade, Industry, and Investment (MITII), Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais, and the Deputy Secretary-General of MITII, Dzulkornain Masron.

Awang Tengah, who is also the Minister of International Trade, Industry and Investment, explained that the database must be established, especially at the national level and shared with all agencies.

He added the proposal to establish a coordination committee for all agencies in Sarawak had also been approved.

He asserted that it was to ensure that the agencies involved coordinate efforts to promote the development of small and medium enterprises and entrepreneurship.

Awang Tengah said it had also been accepted at the national level.
