KUCHING: To tackle congestion on Jalan Diplomatik and the Yayasan Sarawak/Mardi roundabout, especially during peak hours, the Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) has rolled out alternative routes.

DBKU mayor Hilmy Othman said several contributing factors to the congestion have been identified and he outlined collaborative efforts with the Royal Malaysian Police and the Public Works Department to address the issue.

“Among the alternative routes is the temporary closure of one lane on Jalan Diplomatik from 6am to 7.30am. Additionally, the right lane has been converted from one lane to two lanes from the Yayasan Sarawak/Mardi roundabout to the traffic lights at Jalan Casuarina,” he told the media here on Tuesday (Jan 30).

He further detailed diversions on Jalan Diplomatik from the traffic lights at the Archives Department/SMK Demak entrance, redirecting traffic to Jalan Casuarina.

Closure has also been initiated at the Casuarina roundabout to Jalan Diplomatik, with a U-turn from Kasuma Resort towards the stadium roundabout.

Hilmy urged all road users to utilise the alternative routes provided and requested affected city residents to demonstrate patience while addressing the congestion issue for the sake of future comfort and safety.

“As the administrator of Kuching North, DBKU is committed to ensuring that city residents live in a comfortable and safe environment.”
