KUCHING: In conjunction with Sarawak Authors Festival 2017, Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) Sarawak held a writers’ forum to expose talented writers in the State.

At the forum, four writers, James Alexander Ritchie, Abang Narawi Abang Drahman, Willam Chan Khun Neng and Jimbun Tawai shared their knowledge and experience with those present and underscored the need to highlight local cultures in writing.

According to Abang Narawi Abang Drahman, the writers’ forum should be held regularly for the benefits of the young writers.

He said the forum is very interesting as it can help aspiring writers widen their knowledge, deepen their understanding. improve their skills and gain experience in putting words down on paper at every opportunity they have.

Meanwhile, Assistant Research for Iban Section int the Council For Native Customs and Traditions (MAIS), Chief Minister’s Department, Jimbun Tawai said he is glad to be invited to the forum.

“This forum is a great platform in conveying the right information for the references of the writers, especially in the context of Sarawak writers,” he said.

For the young writers, Jimbun promised that MAIS is every ready to help them if they need any assistance from the council.

Also present were Pustaka head of service sector Hayati Sabil and other distinguished guests.
