KUCHING: A man who was believed to have suffered from depression was found dead in an apparent suicide at a house in RPR Batu Kawa.

Padawan District Police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan, said the body of the 25-year-old was discovered about 8.30pm by his elder brother on Saturday.

“The father did not know what caused his son to hang himself. However, he did notice that the son looked depressed and did not talk much for the past two to three days,” he said when contacted.

The young man was found hanging from a wire tied to a beam. He was kneeling with both of his legs folded on the bed.

His elder brother noted that both he and his father went out to work at 7.30am and ended their shift at 5pm.

However, instead of going home, he stopped at his employee’s house at the same road junction until 8pm.

Aidil pointed out before returning home, the elder sibling bought dinner and upon arrival he found his brother dead.

“He was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene,” said Aidil.

He disclosed that the police failed to obtain personal documents of the deceased. The father admitted that he had never applied for the identification card at the National Registration Department (NRD). As for the birth certificate, it was kept by the mother and he did not know the number.

It is learned that the family was from Rumah Dee Kerpok Linga in Sri Aman. The parents have long been separated and the younger son had been with his father for the past 10 years.

“Several neighbours at the place informed the police that they did not hear the sound of people fighting at the deceased’s house during the day.

“The body has been taken to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) mortuary and police have ruled out foul play in the case which has been classified as sudden death,” said Aidil.
