Dept to intensify bond with parents

KUCHING: In the Education Development Plan for Malaysia (PPPM) 2013-2015, that is the 9th thrust, the involvement of parents, community and private sector will be intensified and their role enhanced.

State Education Department director Dr Azhar Ahmad revealed this in his welcoming speech at the launching of the Parents and Community Engagement Programme by  Education, Science and Technical Research Minister Datuk Seri Michael Manyin Jawong  at SMK Datuk Patinggi Haji Abdul Gapor Stampin here yesterday.

He said the Parents and Community Engagement Programme would enhance understanding and involvement of parents, the community and the public sector in school programmes and activities.

The progamme was organised by the Education, Science and Technological Research Ministry in collaboration with the Education Ministry Malaysia, Sarawak Education Department and SMK Datuk Patinggi Haji Abdul Gapor Stampin, Kuching.

  Azhar pointed out that the role of parents as school strategic partners would improve the quality of schools and enhance the students’ progress.

He added it could also help to improve the quality of education from the academic, character and discipline as well as co-curricular aspects.

  “The education ecosystem in the 21st century has changed the concept of education based on the school system to a more intensified learning system.

“The involvement of parents, community and the private sector is the noble aim of the Ministry of Education under the Malaysia Education Development Plan 2013-2015 in creating an education ecosystem in the community,” Azhar said.

In conjunction with the launching of the Parents and Community Engagement Programme, exhibitions by technical and vocational institutions were also held to promote TVET among the parents and students.

The Education Ministry also provided a STEM playground and mini planetarium for the students to conduct hands-on activities.
