LUBOK ANTU:  Rela (People’s Volunteer Corps) members here yesterday received a mock cheque worth RM250,000 as grant handed over by Deputy Home Minister Dato Masir Kujat.

The mock cheque for the amount was received by a representative of the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) of Nanga Ukom, Ulu Engkari at the Opening Ceremony of National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS) organised by the Rela Lubok Antu at Rumah Intuine, Nyato Atas here. Such grant was as a form of ‘Sumbangan Khidmat Bakti Rela’ (Rela Meritorious Service Contribution).

Earlier in his speech, Masir urged, Rela especially in Lubok Antu must become  ‘eyes and ears’ of the government led by Barisan Nasional (BN) from time to time.

Thus those who had supported the opposition previously, they are advised to return to the BN fold especially ahead of the 14th General Election (GE).

“After all these actions are not compatible with the uniform (Rela’s) that they use. For that reason please continue to be loyal to BN,” he said.

“Rela is under the Home Ministry. Therefore the entity is regarded as one of the important security forces in the country especially those living in rural areas.

“We will try to add more Rela members in Sri Aman. It is important that Rela is strengthened here as it can enhance the safety and security of society,” he said.

Also present at the event was Lubok Antu Member of Parliament,  Datuk William Nyalau Badak.
