Doc arriving late for work: It won’t happen again, says Health director

KUCHING: Sarawak Health Department (JKNS) director Dr. Ooi Choo Huck has apologised to the public over a recent incident where a doctor showed up for work only at 9.45 am on Oct 27, keeping patients waiting since 8 am.

Apparently patients were forced to wait in the crowded clinic for over an hour without knowing when the doctor would arrive.

Reacting to a complaint from the public, Dr. Ooi issued an apology through a statement

today.

“An immediate investigation has been conducted, and corrective measures have been taken to prevent a recurrence of such incidents in the future.

“We are deeply grateful for the concern shown by all parties towards the healthcare services provided to the public,” he said, adding that JKNS is committed to providing quality and equitable healthcare services in all public healthcare facilities throughout the state.

Previously, Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen, in his Facebook post, claimed that he was informed by members of the public that the doctor in charge at Kuching Kota Sentosa Polyclinic only came to the clinic at 9.45 am on Oct 27.

“Many patients had been waiting at the polyclinic since 8  am. Yet, they had to wait in the crowded clinic for over an hour without knowing when the doctor would arrive.

“JKNS should provide an explanation for the incident,” he said.
