BINTULU: Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) has inked a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with local authorities to conserve Sg Plan in Bintulu.

The MoU was signed between PETRONAS’ subsidiary, Malaysia LNG Sdn Bhd (MLNG), Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) and the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) to implement conservation programmes in Sungai Plan, Tanjung Kidurong, Bintulu for a period of four years, starting from 2024 to 2027.

According to Petronas Malaysia Assets, Upstream Business vice president Hasliza Othman, the programme includes three main components, namely creating a baseline of water quality, regular monitoring and greening of the river bank involving the planting of 500 saplings along the Sg Plan area.

It also entails river conservation awareness among the community and industry players.

“We hope that through this initiative, we can contribute to the efforts in preserving and conserving the ecosystem in this area as well as instill an attitude of caring for the environment among the local community,” she said.
