KUCHING: Pakatan Harapan (PH) has been advised that if their policies are truly for the benefit of the people, they should not be overly sensitive about public criticisms, especially the positive ones.

Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Youth chief, Michael Tiang, said this in response to the lodging of a police report by Pujut assemblyman Dr Ting Tiong Choon over a statement he made.

“I have no intention to tarnish or defame the administration of the PH government, but I need to speak on government policies when speaking up is necessary,” he said.

Tiang reminded PH that when they came into power in May last year it promised Malaysians to embrace all criticisms without compromising the freedom of speech.

“However, the promise was clearly broken when Dr Ting lodged a police report concerning a public statement that was published to vent the people’s concerns.

“I advise Dr Ting that he should put more efforts into ensuring that all PH election promises in their 14th general election (GE14) manifesto get fulfilled, particularly those involving Sarawak,” he said.

He said Ting should spend more time explaining to the people how much PH’s administration had done to fulfill the election promises, instead of going in and out of police stations to lodge police reports whenever they got criticised.

Tiang recalled that on Dec 15, he made a press statement criticising the PH administration for failing to maintain several 1Malaysia clinics in Sarawak.

“Some of these community clinics were forced to close down as they had problems paying rents. Also, some enforcement agencies couldn’t afford to maintain their vehicles and vessels due to huge cuts in the allocations due to them,” he said.

Recently it was reported that a police station in Selangor was forced to close down as the rent was not paid.

“I also urge Ting and other PH leaders to give more explanation on the flying car project … why the flying car is actually just a glorified drone. PH as a government elected by the people has a duty to answer public queries,” he said.
