KUCHING: Airlines, especially AirAsia, have been urged not to reschedule or cancel flights for participants in the International Dragon Boat Regatta.

Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said he would monitor the matter closely.

“Most participants have booked their tickets, (and) if their flights are rescheduled or cancelled, they may not be able to participate in the race.

“I will monitor closely this issue and we will make it difficult for them if they start doing this (rescheduling and cancelling flights) to us.

“Most of the participants have made advance ticket reservations to get cheaper fares. I am worried that their flights will be delayed or cancelled. This will disrupt the programme we have prepared,” Abdul Karim said.

He added that a special lane had been prepared at the arrival point for the participants. “All this will be in vain if their flight is cancelled.”

“I hope the media will highlight this issue, especially to AirAsia,” he stressed during the Sarawak Regatta press conference here on yesterday (Sept 13).

The eighth edition of the Dragon Boat Race will be participated by 16 countries and this is the most participation from abroad so far.
