KUCHING: Homebuyers under the Perbadanan Pr1ma Malaysia (PR1MA) are reminded not to exploit the subsidy given by the federal government such as selling back the houses or renting them to outsiders.

Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said since the affordable houses were subsidised by the government, the buyers were not allowed to sell them within five years.

“I also found out that some home owners did not live in the houses and instead, they rent them out to the outsiders.

“”Actions like this actually deprive the B40 group who are genuinely eligible of the opportunities and rights. The subsidised houses we offer  are meant for the entire family to occupy,” he said.

Nga said this during a press conference after  visiting the Residensi Bintawa Riverfront (PR1MA @ Bintawa Riverfront) yesterday (November 6).

“I was told  some owners rent out the subsidised houses by charging  up to RM2,000 per month.

“The subsidised price for a buyer  is RM230,000, then the buyer rents it out for RM2000. In a year, the buyer gets RM24,000. In nine years, he/she has a free house.

“To us, that is cheating. They say they are poor and cannot afford a house. Please do not do this and take advantage of the subsidy that was given,” he added.

Nga   urged the buyers not to manipulate and exploit the subsidy given by the federal government.

“Let us be responsible home buyers so that  the federal government can continue to provide  houses for the less fortunate people out there,” he added.
