SRI AMAN: It’s an offence to overtake on double lines and offenders will be slapped with a fine of RM300.

The Road Transport Department (JPJ) says drivers or riders cannot cut in and out of traffic on double lines; they must stay on their lane because they generally cannot see vehicles from the opposing traffic flow.

Some areas with double lines are winding roads, steep roads, narrow roads, tunnels, intersections and school areas.

Yesterday (Feb 8), JPJ Sri Aman issued 10 notices for non-compliance of traffic laws during an operation along Jalan Temuduk-Lachau.

The notices were issued for overtaking on double lines, which is the one of the seven major offences.

The other major offences are cutting queues, disobeying red light signals, driving over the speed limit, using mobile phones while driving, not wearing a seat belt or helmet, and driving on emergency lanes.

JPJ will conduct regular enforcement to make sure road users comply with existing rules and regulations.
