SIBU: The community has been urged to not be complacent with the declining number of positive Covid-19 cases lately.

This was said by Sibu Divisional Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) coordinator Dr Annuar Rapaee on Saturday (May 15).

Last Thursday, Sibu recorded 27 positive Covid-19 cases while on Friday, there were 58 cases recorded.

“Despite the low numbers recorded on Thursday and a slight increase of cases on Friday, I always say that it is too early for us to celebrate it even though we are still in the Hari Raya mood.

“Slacking can also bring consequences that causes us to fail to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs),” said the Local Government and Housing Assistant Minister.

Dr Annuar also hoped that after Hari Raya, there would not be an increase in cases or the announcement of new clusters in Sibu.

“There is still more that needs to be done to break the chain of Covid-19 infection in Sibu.

“Compliance with the SOPs is the only way for us to do so while waiting for the vaccination process,” said the Nangka assemblyman.

He advised people to continue wearing face masks, practice social distancing, avoid crowded places and wash their hands frequently.

Dr Annuar also urged the community to continue to take care of their health, including their family members’.

At the same time, he said apart from complying with the SOPs, vaccinations are also necessary to fight the virus.

“Therefore, I once again call on the Sibu community to continue to register for the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme,” he said.
