BINTULU: Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil made a selfless decision by prioritising the interests of the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) over his personal ambitions.

He announced his withdrawal from the race for the party’s deputy president position during the PDP Triennial General Assembly (TGA) meeting today (June 10).

Dr Penguang disclosed that he initially received numerous nominations from his supporters for the position. However, after considering the party’s interest, unity, and stability, he chose to withdraw his nomination.

He said that his decision was entirely independent and not influenced by anyone’s pressure. Being a small party, he recognised that his participation in the election would likely lead to conflicts within the party.

Dr Penguang did not want his personal interest to destabilise the party.

Following his withdrawal, Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep was unanimously elected as the party’s deputy president for the 2023-2026 term.

Previously, the position of deputy president was held by Datuk Anthony Nogeh Gumbek, who also made way for Jinep.
