KUCHING: The importance of Research and Development (R&D) in fostering the growth and long-term viability of Sarawak’s agricultural sector has been underscored by Minister for Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development, Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom.

He affirmed that the Sarawak government remains dedicated to strategising for the sustainable progression of the state’s agricultural industry.

“Our focus is on cultivating a sustainable sector through R&D. By doing so, we can enhance the industry by emphasising quality in production and productivity,” he said during a press conference after a courtesy visit from the Sarawak Dayak Graduates Association (SDGA) and Nanjing Agriculture University, China, held at his office on Tuesday (Aug 15).

SDGA and Nanjing Agriculture University have solidified their collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding, aimed at fortifying the ties between Sarawak and China.

Dr Rundi explained that the collaboration is expected to provide opportunities for degree holders to receive training in agricultural development.
