KUCHING: Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian has taken prompt measures to offer temporary accommodation to the recent victims of the Batu Kawa RPR (Rumah Pangsa Rakyat) fire.

He highlighted the availability of government flats managed by the Ministry of Housing as a potential solution.

“Rebuilding homes cannot be achieved within days, and relying on evacuation centres for an extended period is not a practical option,” he stated in a press release on today (Sept 1).

Dr Sim pointed to the successful precedent of relocating fire victims from the Segoban longhouse fire to the 18-mile HDC Flats in Batu Gong, where they received essential amenities and support from authorities.

“To provide swift relief to the fire victims of Batu Kawa RPR, they are encouraged to register with their local community leaders, and the authorities will expedite necessary arrangements,” he urged.

He recently made his second visit to the Batu Kawa RPR fire site, where he extended additional financial assistance to the victims.

He also participated in a ceremony at the evacuation centre, during which aid was donated by the Federation of Kuching & Samarahan Divisions Chinese Associations (Hua Zong).
