THE badly damaged pick-up truck about to be towed to IPD Mukah.

MUKAH: A car thief was detained by the police after he was involved in an accident at Kilometre 52, Mukah-Balingian Road near here. In the accident which happened at about 9am yesterday, the suspect was driving a car alone when he rear-ended a pick-up truck heading to Mukah.

According to Mukah District Police chief, DSP Jimmy Ak Panyau, the suspect from Kpg Hilir, Betong was driving a stolen car.

“In the incident the 33-year-old suspect was driving a white Proton Saga car which was reported stolen at Tanjung Kidurong, Bintulu,” he said, adding that the impact of the collision caused both vehicles to skid to the right side of the road and landed in the drain.

“The driver of the pick-up truck sustained minor injuries and was treated as an outpatient at Mukah District Hospital while the suspect was unscathed,” he said. Jimmy also pointed out that the driver of the pick-up truck has lodged a report at the Mukah District Police Headquarters.

“The suspect was taken to Balingian Police Station for documentation before he was taken to IPD Mukah. The suspect and stolen car are being detained for further investigation,” he said.
