Driver survives drain crash with injuries

PADAWAN: A local man sustained injuries after his car swerved and crashed into a monsoon drain near St Ann’s Church at Mile 10 early this morning.

A spokesman from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the accident happened around 2.50am and firemen from Siburan station were deployed to the scene.

The 45-year-old was said to be driving his car alone before it swerved, crashed into the drain and landed on its roof.

However, the victim managed to get out of his car before the team arrived at the scene.

Upon arriving, the team helped the victim out of the drain by using a stretcher and a ladder.

He was later handed over to the paramedics to be taken to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for further treatment.

The extent of his injuries was not immediately known.
