MIRI: A family of seven was amongst the 27 individuals tested positive for drugs in two raids conducted on Friday night.

They consist of a 56-year-old man, his brother, two sons aged 26 and 29, his 25-year-old daughter and her husband and a niece.

According to National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) Miri chief Mazlan Jikran, the raids were held at two separate locations — Taman Desa Senadin and Kampung Wireless.

“A total 32 people aged between 13 and 60 were rounded up during the six-hour operation dubbed ‘Ops Bersepadu’ which started at 10.30pm and ended at 4am on Saturday morning,” said Mazlan.

A total of five agencies were took part in the raids; AADK (Miri and Limbang), Immigration Department, Welfare Department, Miri Resident committee and the People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela).

In another scenario, during the raid at one of the locations, the team also caught a married couple aged 25 and 26 doing drugs while their nine-month-old infant was crying for milk.

All suspects are currently being detained under Section 3(1) of the Drug Dependents (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983 and the Immigration Act 1959/1963 under Section 51(5)(b) for further investigations.
