DRUG abuse cases in Murum constituency are becoming a worrying issue, therefore there is a need to have a National Anti-drug Agency (AADK) office in Bakum Resettlement Scheme (BRS) Sungai Asap.

Kennedy Chukpai Ugon (GPS-Murum) (pic) said drug abuse not only occurs in the town, but also in rural areas, schools, and in the remote village areas.

“In view of this, there is also a need to have the police station in BRS Sungai Asap upgraded into a permanent status,” he said, adding that there is a need to also have narcotics officers stationed there.

He told the uugust House this when debating the motion of appreciation to TYT’s opening address.

“At the same time, there is a need to have drug prevention education officers especially in secondary schools to curb drug abuse among students,” he stressed.

He urged the relevant authorities to be proactive and effective measures to combat these issues.

“I am not pointing fingers at anybody, because this is problem is a shared responsibility, and drug is our number one enemy that needs to be tackled,” he pointed out.
