KUCHING: Two close friends who broke into a house and stole a wallet belonging to a 47-year-old woman were each sentenced to three months in prison by the Magistrate’s Court here today.

Shah Rahul Larendera, 25, and Frazer, 26, pleaded guilty to the charges read before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali.

According to the charge sheet, they jointly committed the offence in a house in Kampung Bintawa Hilir, at approximately 10.30 pm on June 15.

Therefore, they were charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code and read together with Section 34 of the same code.

Based on the facts of the case, around 10.30 pm, the victim’s husband returned home and unexpectedly encountered the first accused (Rahul) in a suspicious manner coming out of his house while holding the victim’s purse.

He immediately apprehended Rahul while his accomplice, Frazer, hid on the side of the stairs and sought help from the neighbours and called the villagers.

Both Rahul and Frazer were successfully captured by the public before being handed over to the police for further action and investigation.

As a result of the investigation, it was found that both of them had stolen a purse belonging to the victim.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Adzmei Ahmad requested that both accused be given a deterrent punishment.
